This week marks the first week of classes for SF State University students (and university students all around). To help kick this week off for iDo, we're launching a redesign of our website, www.industrialdesignoutreach.org. The new design focuses on celebrating the accomplishments that the students of iDo achieve every semester.

Let us know what you think by leaving a comment on our Facebook page.

Good luck with the new school year to all!

You are looking at a brand new iDo participant, Quincy, breaking down the 2011 California Bench. Naming over-arching themes in each panel, Quincy was not alone in his analysis of the bench. In fact, the entire group of iDo participants this year are extremely bright, thoughtful, and engaging – like they are every year. Several students talked about the physical design of each panel, while others discussed thematic context, while others spoke to the technologies used to create the bench. All in all, as with every year, there is a palpable amount of curiosity and creativity.

Marty is fresh back from his trip around the world where he swam with manta rays and explored the jungles of the Amazon. He comes back without skipping a beat and leads a dynamic conversation with the students about what design is. Students answer with objects such as "shoes," "toothpaste," and even "refrigerators." Laura, another iDo participant, turned around and asked Marty, "Is water designed, since people make so much money from it?" This goes to show the inquisitive nature these students bring with them.

August is here and Thurgood Marshall's semester will be starting up Monday, with SF State classes starting a week later. It's been a challenging and rewarding summer filled with new ideas, exploration, and planning.

This photo was taken on May 12, 2011. Yes, it was more than two months ago, but we believe it shows the pride brimming from their faces and the joy each of them feel at that moment.

Kudos to all those who helped put this project together and who stuck in there day after day to see it through. We should all be proud.
Isabel Perdomo, one of iDo's veterans and graduate student in the Design and Industry department at SF State University, has brought the iDo philosophy down south to Colombia as part of her thesis.

It's a wonderful and powerful project. Please follow her blog to learn more:
